Q: Favourite Edmonton & area Community and why?

I love Edmonton to the core. I worked on Jasper Avenue in my late teens and early 20’s and lived in some turn of the century buildings. Downtown has a special place in my heart, like my right of passage here as a country girl who was scared to cross the street on arrival. The first home I purchased in Edmonton was in Westmount. The charm of these mature areas has never worn thin. I walked everywhere in those days. My foot path stretching across the river to Whyte Ave where I later worke and moved my young family to Strathearn. The surrounding communities King Edward Park, Bonnie Doon, Hazeldean, Avonmore, Strathearn, Ritchie, Holyrood etc feel as part of my roots as do my family’s farm. I find myself in Greenfield, Royal Gardens, Ottewell often today and these mid century homes I have worked in and renovated so often over the years hold so many treasures. My favourite part of this city to this day is  still the moments I get to walk under the tree canopied streets reading historical plaques. The nostalgia fills my heart as do the people I meet. Watching the core of Edmonton morph and change but still also feel the same, is a sentiment I don’t have any other word for other than, grateful. I see familiar faces every day in the coffee shops and restaurants downtown still, and I know I am home.

Q: Favourite local restaurant?

Sweet Mango

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

Every house has a story, like the people that live in them. There is magic in the pages. Some filled with joy and others great sorrow, both at once or in short succession. The polarity of these experiences opens up a window to the raw beauty of life. When you work with someone in relation to their home it encompasses dreams for the future and memories from the past. Mixed with finances and all sides of the human condition, both unpredictable and universal. A search for home, a journey to what’s next. Someone very close to me recently commented that perhaps I am bonded to this narrative from my own wandering spirit and time spent searching for home. Seems to ring true. I love listening and really hearing what the homeowner needs and wants to move forward. The story is my favourite part, trusted with it from the people I am honored to work with, and humbled by it in the big picture as the buildings, humans and years pass by weaving us all together.
